The Venture X is a premium travel card that is designed to cost close to nothing for the people it fits. It charges 395 dollars a year, hands back a 300-dollar travel credit and 10,000 miles every anniversary, and earns 2x on everything. The catch is that the credit lives in Capital One's own travel portal, and lounge access changed in February 2026. This guide goes through what Capital One lists in October 2026 and whether the arithmetic works for you.

Capital One lists no foreign transaction fees, miles that do not expire for the life of the account and no blackout dates. It lists cell phone protection of up to 800 dollars when you pay your phone bill with the card, a credit toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and Hertz President's Circle status.

Does the fee come out near zero?

Capital One describes a 300-dollar annual credit for purchases through Capital One Travel, which can be used in whole or in part and expires at your next account anniversary. It also gives 10,000 bonus miles from your first anniversary, which reviewers value at about 100 dollars at one cent each. Together that is about 400 dollars against a 395-dollar fee.

On paper the card pays for itself. In practice, that depends on the portal.

Lounges

Capital One's page says primary cardholders can use Capital One Lounges and Landing locations and the Priority Pass network of 1,300 or more lounges. Reviewers reported that from 1 February 2026 authorized users lose complimentary lounge access and can pay to keep it, and that guests pay a fee instead of entering free. Trackers report guest fees of 45 dollars for an adult and 25 for a child, with two free guests only above 75,000 dollars of yearly spending. Rules like these change, so check Capital One's terms.

Redeeming and transferring

Reviewers note that miles redeem for travel at a fixed 1 cent each, but only half a cent as a statement credit. Capital One's page says miles transfer to 15 or more travel loyalty programmes. Reviewers note that the big three US airlines are not among them, which matters if you mostly fly domestically. See where to send flexible points in 2026 and what points are worth.

The rules around applying

Trackers recorded a welcome offer of 75,000 miles after 4,000 dollars in the first 3 months during 2026, after a 100,000-mile offer in late 2025 that needed 10,000 dollars in 6 months. Offers differ by channel and change, so read the one you are shown, and use your own value for the miles, as how to price a sign-up bonus explains.

Is it right for you?

Fits you

  • You book several trips a year and are happy to use Capital One Travel.
  • You value a flat 2x on everything and want miles that do not expire.
  • You will use the lounges yourself and do not travel with a crowd.

Think twice

  • You book travel directly, so you could not use the 300-dollar credit.
  • You need lounge access for guests or authorized users.
  • You want to transfer to the large US airlines.

Questions people ask

Do I have to book through Capital One Travel?

For the 300-dollar credit and the 5x and 10x rates, yes. Reviewers note that portal prices can be higher than booking direct, so compare before you book. Capital One says each annual credit expires at your next account anniversary.

Can authorized users use the lounges?

Capital One's page now refers to primary cardholders. Reviewers report that from 1 February 2026 authorized users lost complimentary lounge access, and can pay to keep it, and that guests cost a fee. Check Capital One's current terms.

Do the miles expire?

Capital One says miles do not expire for the life of the account. Reviewers note that miles on a card are lost if you close it, unless you move them to another Capital One miles card first.

Is there a foreign transaction fee?

No. Capital One's page says you pay no transaction fee on purchases outside the United States, and it also lists cell phone protection of up to 800 dollars.

How easy is it to get the card and the bonus?

Reviewers say it is hard to get approved. They also report a limit of about one Capital One card every 6 months, a pull of all three credit bureaus, and a 48-month wait for a bonus if you received one on a Venture X, Venture or VentureOne.
