How to keep it working
SmarTone's 5G local prepaid card must be registered under a real name in Hong Kong before it works: Hong Kong ID holders can use iAM Smart, and others are verified by the next working day. The card is valid for 180 days after activation, and every top-up of HK$50 or more resets that to 180 days. A monthly administration fee of HK$3 is taken on the activation day and the same date each month, and it is waived for the first 60 days. SmarTone's pages do not say what happens to the number once the validity ends, so top up before the date and ask SmarTone if you are unsure. The card includes 8 GB of 5G local data for 30 days at activation, and local data plans such as 5 GB for 180 days at HK$48 are sold on top.
