Add the extension yourself

A zip file, a folder and one switch in your browser’s settings. It is the extension itself, with the permissions it always has: your cards stay in the browser, there is no account, and it reads a shop’s page only after you allow that site.

Needs a Chromium-based browser on a computer (Chrome, Edge, Brave and the like), version 120 or newer.

Five steps, about a minute

  1. Unzip the file

    Unzip it into a folder you will keep. The browser reads the extension from that folder every time it starts, so do not leave it in Downloads or put it in the Trash.

  2. Open the extensions page

    Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. In Edge it is edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions.

  3. Turn on Developer mode

    The switch is at the top right of that page. Without it the browser will not take a folder.

  4. Load the folder

    Choose Load unpacked and pick the folder that holds the file manifest.json.

  5. Pin it

    Open the puzzle icon in the toolbar and pin RewardVane. Click it on a shop’s page to see which of your cards to use.

Check the file first

Anyone can put a file called RewardVane online. This number is the fingerprint of the one on this page: if the file you downloaded gives a different one, do not install it.

The two numbers must match exactly. If they do not, delete the file and download it again from this page.

Good to know

  • It does not update itself. When a new version is out, download it again, replace the files in your folder and press Reload on the extension’s card.
  • Your browser may remind you that an extension is in developer mode. That is how a hand-installed extension is marked; it is not a fault.
  • Install it only from this page. Anything else that calls itself RewardVane is not ours.
  • To remove it, press Remove on its card on the extensions page, then delete the folder.
